Co-Founder and CEO
Dave Marver is an experienced medical technology executive and entrepreneur. Prior to co-founding VICIS, he served as CEO of Cardiac Science Corporation, a NASDAQ-listed company with over 600 employees. Dave also spent fourteen years and held a variety of senior leadership positions in the US and Europe with Medtronic, and at one time was their youngest Vice President. Dave is a graduate of Duke University and has an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA.
Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer
Per Reinhall, PhD, is Professor and Chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Washington (UW) and Founder and former Director of the Boeing Advanced Research Center at UW. He is also a UW Presidential Entrepreneurial Faculty Fellow, with research discoveries that have led to two startup companies. He earned his PhD in Applied Mechanics from Caltech, and BS in Mechanical Engineering from UW.
Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Samuel R. Browd, M.D., Ph.D., FACS, FAANS, FAAP is a Professor of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington (UW) and Attending Neurosurgeon at Seattle Children’s Hospital, Medical Director of the Seattle Children’s Sports Concussion Program, Director of the UW Medicine Sports Health and Safety Institute, Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Neurosurgery, and Adjunct Professor of Bioengineering and affiliate faculty of the Foster School of Business. Dr. Browd completed a combined M.D. and Ph.D. at the University of Florida studying neuroplasticity and learning.
Dave Auckland is responsible for VICIS’ financial stewardship. Dave is a licensed CPA and began his career at Arthur Andersen LLP working on public and private company engagements both in US and European Union. Prior to joining the VICIS leadership team, Dave previously served in senior executive roles at the Seattle Seahawks and Sounders FC professional sports teams as well as the online retailer, Amazon.com. At Amazon, Dave led Finance Operations in the Americas and Asia, primarily managing the procure to pay and strategic planning processes for over $100B in annual spend on capital improvements, digital content, corporate procurement and goods for resale. He earned his BA in Accounting and Information Systems from the University of Washington.
VP of Research and Development
Jason Neubauer has more than 20 years of experience designing and developing unique consumer products, and in R&D management, sourcing, and commercialization. He has significant knowledge of the sports industry, and has led teams and worked at K2 Sports, Coleman Company, Helium Wake, Global Sourcing Solutions, Earth and Ocean Sports, and KD Watersports. At Western Washington University, he earned his BS in Manufacturing Engineering, with an emphasis in Plastics.
Claes Broqvist is responsible for establishing OUS sales channels for rugby, hockey and soccer, and informing international product decisions. Prior to starting at VICIS, he was CSO of the Oberalp Group (Dynafit, Salewa), Odlo and Haglofs, and former Sales Director NIKE EMEA.
Brian Matakis started his career in public policy before embarking on a nearly 20-year marketing journey across PR, branding/advertising, digital products and next gen commerce and activation. He joined VICIS after leading the Nike retail, e-commerce and innovation initiatives at R/GA. Prior to that role, he served as an executive at POP digital marketing, working with clients such as Brooks Running, PGA TOUR, HTC Vive, Major League Soccer and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
VP, Sales / North America
Greg Meehan is driving the US Sales team’s execution in scaling football growth while simultaneously expanding into new categories. Greg has more than 30 years of experience developing sales processes and strategies as VP of Sales at Medtronic and Edwards Lifesciences. A lifelong football player, he played for the San Diego Chargers and Cincinnati Bengals before starting his career in Sales.
Director of Strategic Initiatives
Valerie Carricaburu, PhD in Neuroscience, manages VICIS’ intellectual property portfolio and strategy, sources strategic partnerships and technologies, and manages the development of several VICIS’ programs. Additionally, Valerie works closely with VICIS’ founders to lead VICIS publication strategy and run research projects aimed at defining significance of results obtained with VICIS products. She previously served in roles at Intellectual Ventures, Pacific Northwest Research Institute, and the University of Washington’s Center for Commercialization.
Director of Operations
Brandon Kidwell heads FAB, VICIS’ manufacturing facility, and oversees its production capabilities and expansion, as well as leads the manufacturing engineering group which ensures the proper quality controls and manufacturing process are in place. He previously worked in Research and Manufacturing Engineering roles at General Dynamics, Boeing’s Commercial Airplane Group, Ormond, and HydraMaster. He holds a BS in Manufacturing Engineering and an AA in Engineering Design Technology.
Manager, Business Development
Roger Levesque is a former Seattle Sounders player and fan favorite who now heads VICIS’ soccer initiative. After retiring from professional soccer, he worked as the Sounders’ Director of Community Outreach, where he developed the team’s community and strategic initiatives. He holds an MBA from the UW Foster School of Business and BA from Stanford, where he led the Cardinal Men’s Soccer team to two NCAA Final Fours and was twice named to All-American teams.
Hewan is VICIS’ in-house counsel and oversees legal, governance, and contractual matters, in addition to supporting the CEO and senior leadership team in executing company objectives. Prior to VICIS, she led Corporate and Legal Affairs at a consumer products portfolio company in Ethiopia, and worked as a Corporate Associate at Hogan Lovells. She earned her JD from Stanford Law School and BA from New York University, and is an active bar member in Washington State and New York.
Director, HR and Talent Acquisition
Julie Johns has more than 17 years of experience developing recruiting, management, and talent strategy in the technology and healthcare sectors. Prior to joining VICIS, she led the business and recruiting strategy efforts of Microsoft's Global Talent Acquisition group. Julie also spent seven years at Cardiac Science, an incubation group formerly known as the Microsoft Health Solutions Group and Philips Medical Systems. She has a BA in Communication with a Business minor from Washington State University.
